Annabel Martirossian, Upper Fifth

On my first day at Bede's, the big question in my mind was... Who am I?

When I started senior school, I had no idea of the person I wanted to become, and Bede's has helped me discover who that person is.

There are two main sides to me I think, but the first thing I fell in love with was Physics, and that's thanks to my teachers.

Mr Hiscox's passion is infectious. What's amazing is that, after his lessons, I find myself hungry for more knowledge. That's where Dr Dawson is a master. The way he nails down a theory so clearly and so creatively... it's really inspiring!

The other big part of my personality is Art and Design and Technology.

I first started at Bede's in the Prep School, when I was nine. Daniel, my brother, joined with me, and now we both hold Art Scholarships.

My passion is working in pastel and pencil, while Daniel is a talented caricaturist. We both love art so much that I don't think I could ever leave it, and neither of us knew, even a few years ago, that we had these talents.

But now, thanks to Bede's, I have a plan. I'm going to study Design Engineering, and I'm going to make things.

This summer I'm attending a course at Imperial, which is funny, because before I was born my Dad fled to England from Armenia. He worked hard and eventually studied at Imperial.

I can't help but think that if my Dad could come from his background and achieve so much, against all the odds, that I can achieve even more.

And the thing is, with Bede's helping me, I know that I will.

This interview was conducted in the Summer Term of 2012. Annabel went onto become a School Prefect in the Upper Sixth, was the Head of Bloomsbury House and achieved A*AAA in her Levels. She is now studying Mechanical Engineering at Warwick.
