In addition to all of the training offered to members of Bede’s Junior Cricket Academy, Senior pupils at Bede’s, in particular Sixth Formers, can enjoy a range of additional cricketing opportunities.
At the start of each academic year, for example, pupils come to me to highlight their free lessons and whenever possible those pupils then come to me for one-to-one sessions. This may lead to up to three additional hours of one-to-one coaching per week in addition to the 10 hours available to all Bede’s cricketers irrespective of fixtures.
Our training sessions are about more than just the tactical aspects of Cricket; we physically and psychologically shape our players to ensure they are prepared for success on and off the pitch and players are given a rigorous personal training programme through which specific personal needs are identified and three sessions a week are organised to increase the physical attributes of their game.
With 21 years of playing experience coupled with being a Level IV coach, I am confident saying that this provision is second to none and is further enriched by my colleague and Bede’s Cricket Development Coach and former-Sussex opening batsman Neil Lenham; between us we have played over 1,000 1st team games and truly believe in putting pupils first.
With a busy fixtures schedule which includes two matches a week during the season, the provision in place between Bede’s and our partners at Sussex County Cricket Club and the very elite Senior Academy players also benefiting from the ETP Programme, it is hard to imagine a more comprehensive programme of cricket development than that which is received by our elite Seniors.
Indeed, the Academy runs year round and has seen Bede's players transitioning from the Senior School 1st XI through the England U19s and into the Sussex setup for four consecutive years.
“ The best thing about my job is seeing a pupil I'm coaching smile because they have achieved something new, improved or had a breakthrough. It gives me a huge buzz. ”
