Sussex County Cricket Club Partnership

Bede’s has had close links with Sussex for 14 years, enriched by my personal history with the club.

This started because Sussex recognised that the Bede’s Cricket Academy was helping to produce significant numbers of county youth cricketers and a number of full-time professional cricketers including Olly Rayner, Luke Wells, Callum Jackson and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

Over time, our partnership with Sussex has developed to the point at which we now have a Winter Programme that sees Sussex coaches visiting Bede’s on Monday and Wednesday evenings to coach all of the fast bowlers from East Sussex, including Bede’s pupils.

On Wednesday lunchtimes, the Sussex CCC Fielding Coach also comes to Bede’s to give expert tuition on fielding for all Bede’s cricketers in the area or County squads and we also enable our Sussex Academy players to travel to Hove every Tuesday and Thursday to attend Sussex Academy training sessions.

We intend to grow this relationship further in the years to come, and hope that Bede’s becomes a satellite campus for their Academy, but even now it would be hard to imagine a top flight county cricket club having a much closer relationship than that between Bede’s and Sussex.

The best thing about my job is seeing a pupil I'm coaching smile because they have achieved something new, improved or had a breakthrough. It gives me a huge buzz.
