Strength and Conditioning
The Bede’s Sport Programme is underpinned by a ground-breaking Strength and Conditioning programme led by our full-time Level 3 high performance coach Tony Morriss.
Mr Morriss is supported by Mr Byrne, Mr Crocker, Mr Armstrong-Ford and Mr Dunn, all of whom are Level 2 or 3 Fitness Coaches, with the ethos of the programme being to enable every Bede’s pupils to train in a sport-specific manner and enjoy extensive physical developments within their sports.
All of Bede’s sports Academies and Clubs have access to Mr Morriss, with all team members receiving a training programme which enables them to pursue sport-related self-tuition.
Bede’s is also focused on fitness as a mass participation tool, with Mr Morriss and his team offering full programmes for pupils at all levels. Whether it be from an initial introduction into using the gym to elite sport, a programme and induction is available to everyone.
The Conditioning Team also focuses on sports rehab, indoor cycling, plyometrics and other unique methodologies which complete this exciting sporting offer.
Those in sports teams are given Team Training Programmes, with gym-times specially allocated for elite squads, while any Bede’s pupil can use our exceptionally well-equipped Fitness Suite at break times, during the Co-Curricular Programme, in evenings and on weekends.
Take a Virtual Tour of the Fitness Suite:
All Fitness Suite users benefit from the facilities’ state-of-the-art equipment, including 10 Wi-Fi inclusive treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, rowers, fixed machine weights and a specialised Olympic lifting area.
In addition to the above, Mr Morriss uses advanced equipment including as bungees, callipers, timing gates, medicine balls and plyometric boxes.
This wealth of provision is in place for two reasons: firstly, we consider the health and wellbeing of our pupils to be paramount and aspire for every child to have a healthy mind in a healthy body.
Secondly, in our expert opinion, it is absolutely fundamental that those children aiming for County honours or higher receive every possible competitive advantage on their peers.
