Biodiversity and Rewilding
This year our BEden project activity has been working to improve the area by the greenhouses for wildlife.
The first term seemed to be a never ending project of digging as we built our ‘Hibernaculum’ - a safe underground overwintering habitat for amphibians, reptiles and any other animals that want to take up residence.
Above ground the area has had a log pile and ‘stumpery’ built which will naturally rot down over time and provide habitat for a variety of insects, including beetles.
An area has been cleared for a dead hedge and we have planted wildlife friendly plants including alliums, nasturtiums, teasle, sunflowers and fennel, as well wildflower seeds.
