Throughout the last fortnight of county cricket Bede’s students, both past and present, were right in the thick of the action. 

Ali Orr continued his fine form for Sussex, opening the batting against Kent with an impressive stand of 209, before being brilliantly caught for 119.  This was Ali’s maiden first class century and follows a score of 67 in his debut against Yorkshire and a classy 80 in his next match against Glamorgan.  

Sixth Form pupil, Dan Ibrahim followed up his superb debut half century against Yorkshire with another 50 in the first innings in Sussex’s creditable draw against Glamorgan at Hove at a point when Sussex were struggling at 75 for 5. 

Meanwhile another Sixth Former, Archie Lenham’s incredible start to his T20 career continued with a match winning 4-26 against Glamorgan.  He then followed up with another wicket against Essex.  Archie Lenham’s impressive performance has earned him Sussex Player of the Month award which is voted for by the fans. Delray Rawlins also blasted 50 off 29 balls in typical Rawlins style to help Sussex get the win against Essex. 

Another Old Bedian, Fynn Hudson-Prentice was also in action for Derbyshire, taking 5-68 against Nottinghamshire.  He was also the equal top scorer with 30 runs.  Fynn’s reputation as a quality all-rounder has certainly grown this season and Sussex CCC announced earlier this week that Fynn will also be returning to Hove next season.

At Old Trafford, Luke Wells was part of history having been part of the Lancashire team when Jimmy Anderson took his 1000^th first class wicket and he took a good catch at slip to give Jimmy his 998^th wicket and a few days later helped Lancashire to victory over Northants in the T20 Blast with tidy bowling figures of 0-18 off of 3 overs.  The Roses match between Yorkshire and Lancashire was abandoned ahead of the final day’s play because of safety concerns, with Luke finishing unbeaten just three runs short of a century.
