Ralph Competes in Netflix's The Big Flower Fight
Giles Entwisle, Bede's Prep Headmaster

We are very excited to watch Ralph Kernott, a member of the Grounds team at Bede's Prep, make his TV debut with his son Jim on the first series of Netflix’s The Big Flower Fight, which will air next Monday 18 May.

Hosted by comedians Vic Reeves and Natasia Demetriou, the series sees ten pairs of amateur gardeners from around the world push their skills to the limit as they compete to create stunning, supersized floral sculptures.

Ralph, who has a City & Guilds qualification in horticulture at Level 3, took on the challenge with his son Jim, a student of 3D Design and Craft in Brighton. The pair enjoy working together on a range of projects, including their recent restoration of a 1940’s army truck – however this experience took their creative partnership to a whole new level.

Ralph comments on his experience: “Time limits were strict and the pressure was on to complete a creation to the best of our abilities to impress the judges. I learned so much from being in this show, from how these programmes are made to finding out how my son can work under such conditions. We had an absolute blast, and have made some fantastic new friends. I feel we can hold our heads high, and am very proud in what we have achieved.”
