Private Schools East Sussex
Welcome to Bede's! We are a co-educational, independent day and boarding school for pupils from 3 months to 18 years. We have two beautiful sites - our Preparatory School is by the sea in Eastbourne, and our Senior School, in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
At Bede's, we take pride in helping our pupils discover and develop their unique talents. Every girl and boy is encouraged to strive for greatness and be the best they can be.
Bede's is a colourful, and busy atmosphere, filled with energy and a delightful rhythm. We are a welcoming community who are ambitious for our pupils. We encourage all pupils to develop their passions, seek new horizons and achieve their potential.
Bede's Prep School, Eastbourne
Bede's Prep School was founded in 1895 with a roll of four boys. It offers education from 3 months in our Nursery, to Year 9. In 1902, it moved to it's current, grand premises, nestled on a cliff top above Beachy Head. It boasts stunning views of the sea, sharing a boarder with South Downs National Park.
Over the years, Bede's Prep have produced a number of notable alumni, including Eddie Izzard and Nicky Henson. In recent years, there have been a range of developments to the Bede's Prep site including a new Sports Hall, a swimming pool, a new astro and dining room.
Leigh-Anne Morris, Bede's Prep Headteacher says, "Our kind-hearted community is underpinned by generosity of spirit, mutual respect, warmth and compassion. By providing a festival of opportunities, we enable our pupils to discover new passions and develop new talents motivating them to be the best versions of themselves."
We ensure that every child finds joy in their pursuit of brilliance. We aim to craft a more joyful education by cultivating a vibrant learning experience. This motivates us to pursue our individual best. We offer pupils a festival of opportunity, so they can discover their unique passions and talents.
Bede's Senior School, Upper Dicker
Bede's Senior School hosts pupils from Year 9 until Year 13 (Sixth Form). The Senior School was founded in 1978 by Mr Peter Pyemont, following the success of the Prep School. You can find the Senior School in the heart of the rural village of Upper Dicker. It is surrounded by over 100 acres of the beautiful Sussex Downs National Park.
Since it's conception in 1979, Bede's Senior School has grown from 23 pupils to today's roll of approximately 800. It is one of the fastest-growing and successful independent schools of the 20th century. Developments in the last decade have seen the construction of a new Animal Management Unit, a Sports Complex and four new boarding houses. Currently, there is a new Dorms House development with 60 en-suite bedrooms, as well as a communal atrium, break-out zones, learning spaces for Day Boarders and flats for house staff and tutors.
Bede's Senior School fosters a community of discovery to encourage every pupil to find and develop their passions, develop lasting friendships and achieve their potential.
Peter Goodyer, Bede's Senior School Headmaster comments, "By presenting our pupils with the prospect of innovation, exploration and experimentation, all the while championing choice at every turn, we imbue each Bedian with the confidence to say that they excel at those things which they value most."
