Day Houses
The ethos of the Day Houses at Bede's are fundamentally the same as that of our boarding houses - to provide safe, happy and inclusive environments to enable all pupils to meet their potential.
There are five Day Houses at Bede's – three Boys' Houses (Deis, Dicker and Knights) and two Girls' Houses (Bloomsbury and Charleston).
Each House has around 80 pupils in it, divided between the First Year (Year 9) through to the Upper Sixth (Year 13) and each pupil has a Personal Tutor who meets with them as an individual and as a group at least once a week.
As a Day Pupil at Bede's you will quickly discover that there are a great many House events throughout the year, including charity fundraising activities, socials, house competitions and formal dinners.
Elsewhere, the members of each House elect a number of representatives from each year group to sit on the House and School Councils and House Prefects, who are predominately Sixth Form pupils, who take responsibility for helping to run not only the House but Bede's as a whole.
The Houses are the hub of life at Bede's and form and important part of the School's structure. Each has its own identity however, as you will no doubt soon discover
Day pupils account for approximately 60% of the pupil body at Bede's and come to us each day from across the Home Counties, Sussex, Surrey and Kent, either brought to school by their parents or via our extensive bus service.
All day pupils have exactly the same access to our outstanding facilities as our boarders, the only difference is that they head home at the end of the day.
Each House sees pupils vertically integrated into a family-style unit, with our First Year (Year 9) pupils rubbing shoulders with the Upper Sixth (Year 13) and every year group in-between.
Day pupils may also choose to stay at Bede's late, joining in evening activities or undertaking prep at School, and taking advantage of our late bus service or indeed participate in our Weekend Programme.
Life as a Day Pupil at Bede's is busy, exciting and brimming with opportunity.
Day Boarding
Day boarders are day pupils who are attached to a boarding house rather than a day house and stay at school in the evenings for prep and supper, taking the late bus service which leaves at 7.15pm home.
Day boarding is a popular option for pupils who have commitments at School in the evenings as well as for families whose week times can be busy due to work or other commitments.
Day boarders are expected to complete their prep with the rest of the House and can take advantage of the staff available in the evenings to supervise prep time.
