Cricket

Our cricket provision is extensive, with the opportunity for pupils to train three times a week and to play matches throughout the Summer Term alongside an indoor cricket programme which runs during the winter months.

We participate in a highly competitive fixture programme against other top cricketing schools across the country and across the year groups we run 15 teams in order to ensure that pupils with a desire to play and compete for their school, can do so.

The Cricket Programme is led by Alan Wells, our Director of Cricket, former Sussex, Kent and England cricketer who is also Level 4 qualified. His expert team includes Neil Lenham, former Sussex cricketer and Level 3 coach; Sarah Taylor, former England cricketer; Petch Lenham, Level 3 coach; and Matt Pope who is a Level 2 cricket lead for the Prep School.

A high percentage of Bede’s players are selected for National and Representative programmes including Sussex County Cricket Club and England.  Because of the shared coaching and facilities, the pathway through to Bede’s Senior School is a seamless one and for those pupils with an eye on a professional career, Bede’s alumni are able to provide ample inspiration; to date 10 former pupils have gone on to play first class cricket including Sarah Taylor (England), Alice Capsey (England), Freya Kemp (England), Shai Hope (West Indies), Luke Wells and Delray Rawlins (Sussex) and Ollie Rayner (Middlesex).

Girls cricket training takes twice per week at the Prep and Senior Schools respectively with additional fixtures, practice during Games lessons and Saturday training.

Boys cricket training takes place twice per week at the Prep and Senior Schools respectively also with additional fixtures, practice during Games lessons and Saturday training.
