Bede's Headmaster Congratulates ‘A’ Level Pupils on a Year of Huge Personal Successes
Peter Goodyer, Headmaster

Our Leavers had cause to celebrate this year with many brilliant individual achievements and successes.

A truly exceptional Upper Sixth year group saw Esther Tuson achieve four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).  She will be taking her place to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham.  Jemima Richenberg from Seaford will also be going on to study Medicine at the University of Sheffield having also achieved four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and the EPQ.

Our Heads of School Tom Waring from Haywards Heath and Georgina Pearch also have cause for celebration.  Georgina gained two A*s and an A in Business, French and Geography and will go on to study Politics at the University of Bristol, whilst Tom will take his place at the University of Bath studying International Development having achieved A*, A and B in Economics, Politics and Biology.

There was further success across this cohort with Rory Barraclough from Uckfield who achieved three A*s and an A in Economics, Further Maths, Maths and Physics and will take his place at the University of Warwick studying Economics. James Thompson from Eastbourne joins Rory at the University of Warwick on a Film Studies degree with three A*s in Drama and Theatre, Media Studies and Psychology. Congratulations must also go to Teejay Tebite who also achieved three A*s and will go on to study Law at the University of Manchester.

This year has been a particularly strong year for our cricket stars who, despite a gruelling training and fixture schedule, all leave the school with professional cricket contracts and academic results of which they should be very proud. Well done to Alice Capsey who achieved the equivalent of an A* and A, Dan Ibrahim who achieved A*, A and C and Archie Lenham who achieved the equivalent two A*’s and A.

Congratulations also goes to Zara Henstock from Upminster in Essex who achieved an A* and two A’s in Maths, Physics and Chemistry and a Distinction in Dance. She will go on to study her passion – Dance at Urdang Academy in London. Emily Ostler from Caterham, Surrey also achieved an A* and two A’s in Animal Management, Biology and Religious Studies and will be studying Zoology at the University of Leeds, having been so inspired by the Zoo here at the Senior School.

Bede’s Deputy Head, John Tuson commented: “After a tumultuous few years, it was wonderful to see pupils returning to something approaching normality - a normality characterised by the rigours of public exams. As always, these exam results only tell part of the story, but it is an important part, and therefore the outstanding results achieved by so many of our conscientious young people deserve to be celebrated.”

Bede’s Headmaster, Peter Goodyer added: "At Bede's we are dedicated to creating a joyful learning experience, where our pupils can flourish and grow. This year’s results and individual achievements are testament not only to our philosophy, but also to our pupils’ commitment to their education.  I am hugely proud of their successes and am confident that they will go on and achieve much in the next chapter of their lives, with the values we have instilled in their hearts and minds.”
