Our Legat dancers took a trip to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury yesterday to watch a very special performance of Matthew Bourne’s modern take on Romeo and Juliet, which featured two former Bede’s pupils, Matthew Amos and Holly Saw.
Matthew and Holly were selected as two of six of the Canterbury Young Cast of dancers, and performed alongside the professional dancers throughout the production, showcasing the same movements and repertoire as the rest of the cast.
Our current Legat pupils presented Matthew and Holly with flowers backstage after the performance.
Alex Murphy, Director of Dance at Bede’s, says, “The production was amazing, and Matthew and Holly’s performances were absolutely incredible; you honestly couldn’t pick them out from the professional dancers when they were in character. We are so proud, and our pupils were in awe and so inspired to see their friends on stage – with many saying it was the best performance they had ever seen on a Legat trip.”
Matthew left Bede’s this summer and is now studying at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Holly is in her final year at The School of Ballet Theatre UK.
