Academic Enrichment
The Academic Enrichment Programme (AEP) is a fantastic opportunity for our curious and motivated Year 7 and 8 pupils to stretch their wings.
Through a range of stimulating activities, discussions and projects, pupils are encouraged to think independently, explore topics in greater depth and develop their problem-solving, research and critical-thinking skills. The programme fosters intellectual curiosity, builds confidence and supports pupils in reaching their full potential while broadening their academic interests beyond the classroom.
What We Get Up To
Over the two-year programme, pupils take part in a range of enrichment activities designed to develop the four key skills that underpin the AEP:
- Critical Thinking
- Creative Thinking
- Communication and Collaboration
Year 7:
Pupils are introduced to Latin through sessions led by a specialist teacher from the Senior School. Studying Latin helps pupils develop their understanding of language, vocabulary and grammar, while also providing insights into the foundations of many modern languages and aspects of history and culture.
Year 8:
Pupils participate in Model United Nations (MUN) activities, developing their debating, research and public-speaking skills while exploring global issues from a range of perspectives. Following their involvement in an inter-school event hosted at the Senior School, pupils have the opportunity to apply their experience in classroom debates and discussions.
The Power of Voice:
We place a huge emphasis on oracy (the art of speaking). Learning to debate, present, and communicate with confidence not only boosts critical thinking but builds a wonderful sense of self-assurance that helps pupils shine across all their subjects.
STEM & Future Tech:
We love all things Science, Tech, Engineering and Maths! We are always looking for ways to challenge our tech-savvy students, offering hands-on opportunities to explore new technologies and discover how Artificial Intelligence can help shape a better world.
Bede’s SHAPE Magazine:
In a brilliant collaboration with the Senior School, our AEP pupils will become published authors! They’ll contribute to Bede’s SHAPE Magazine, a journal packed with the fascinating articles, creative ideas, and big philosophical questions they’ve explored during their lessons.
Special Trips & Events:
Learning doesn't just happen in the classroom! The AEP adventure includes fantastic specialist trips and events, including buzzing activities at the Senior School like Languages Week.
