The Football Department aims to get the best out of every pupil and provide every player with a football pathway in the future.
At the Prep School the football programme runs during the Autumn Term with boys training at least twice a week and fixtures running on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as an opportunity to trial with the Swerve Senior School Academy on a Thursday evening throughout the academic year.
The Girls Football Programme runs during Activities on a Tuesday, with a training hub on Saturdays and during Games lessons during the Spring Term.
Coaching is led by Director of Football, David Caryer (UEFA A and ISFA coach) and he is supported by ex-professional player, Dan Harding (BHA, Southampton, Ipswich Town) and Director of Swerve Football Academy, Oliver Davies and this integrated approach to coaching supports players in their transition up to the Senior School which offers strength and depth within its football programme.
Bede’s coaches attend a significant number of Prep and small-sided Football team fixtures each year with a view to identifying talent and each year we host an Experience Day in October during which players are selected for our Junior Academy (Year 7 and above) which trains every Thursday evening from 5.30-7.30pm.
This programme means that before many pupils join us in the First Year we have got to know them well and have been able to put in place some individualised action plans. The Junior Academy also competes against other local academies and this combination of training and fixtures programme provides a singular, foundational opportunity for young players which sets them up perfectly for our First Year Academy.
