Information Technology

Here at Bede's we offer pupils the opportunity to take the iGCSE in Computer Science, which includes learning how to code, the exam consists of two theory papers, no coursework.

Alternatively, pupils at Level 2 can take the BTEC course in Information Technology, which is 75% coursework, and allows pupil the opportunity to develop websites, animations, sounds and video.

In the Sixth form, pupils can take the BTEC Level 3 course where they take 2 exams in Database Design and Information Technology, and also complete 2 coursework units regarding Website Development and how businesses use Social Media. 

There's a range of exciting co-curricular opportunites for pupils on the IT and Computing courses including guest speakers who give masterclasses in animation techniques, web development, programming and AI technology. We have regular trips to trade shows such as the BETT show and Amazon Warehouse visit, trips to EGX, which ties in with our eSPorts activity, as well as compete in the British eSports league. Pupils have the chance to take part in Robotics and Programming activities.

Pupils should study IT to gain essential digital literacy, ensuring they can navigate an increasingly technology-driven world, which is vital for future employability. Studying IT fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical reasoning skills. It empowers pupils to understand, create, and innovate, transforming them from passive consumers of technology into active creators. Furthermore, IT education builds independence, confidence, and prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities across all industries.

Studying IT leads to diverse, high-growth careers across nearly every sector. You could become a Software Developer creating applications, a Cybersecurity Analyst protecting sensitive data, or a Cloud Architect managing virtual infrastructure. Data-driven roles like Data Science and Machine Learning are also booming. If you prefer strategy over coding, you might pursue IT Project Management, Systems Analysis, or Technical Consulting.
