Geography

In the First Year, pupils study Geography as part of a humanities carousel in two 4 week units of study. In the two year GCSE course, they study 5 topics and complete two days of fieldwork in both physical and human geography, This is assessed across two papers (no coursework). At A Level there are two papers (physical and human) that make up 80% of the assessment, and a NEA which involves a four day trip to Devon followed by a project write-up that is worth the remaining 20% of the grade.

A Bede’s Geography course gives pupils a 'passport to the world'. It is a "bridge" subject, blending social and physical sciences to develop highly transferable skills like data analysis and spatial thinking. Jobs it can lead to include:

• Environment & Sustainability: Environmental Consultant, Conservation Officer, or Sustainability Manager.
• Built Environment: Town Planner, Surveyor, or Transport Architect.
• Data & Tech: GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist or Cartographer.
• Society & Business: International Development Officer, Disaster Manager, or Supply Chain Analyst.

Because geographers understand the complex relationship between people and the planet, they are increasingly sought after for roles tackling climate change and resource management.

First Year: 
1) Sustainable futures, where pupils question how sustainable are the world's energy and food supplies. 
2) Our changing world, where pupils look at some of the planet’s hottest current topics, including how people live with earthquakes and tsunamis, how our oceans and deserts are managed, and what is our relationship with space and why does it matter?
