The House System
At Bede's, the house system forms the absolute core of school life. Houses serve as pastoral hubs where pupils form long-term friendships across age groups, eat together, relax and compete.
Senior School Houses (Upper Dicker)
All pupils at Bede's are a part of a house - be that a day or boarding house. Day pupils make up about 60% of the student body, while boarders account for 40%. Inside each house, students are organised into groups of around 10 students of the same year group who all share a tutor.
Day Houses
Day houses give day pupils a dedicated base on campus, complete with social spaces, lockers, and study areas.

Girls' Day Houses: Bloomsbury, Charleston

Day Boarding Option: Day pupils who want to stay late for evening prep (homework), extra-curriculars, and dinner can choose to be a Day Boarder attaching themselves directly to a boarding house until the late evening buses depart.
Boarding Houses
Bede’s is known for its modern, award-winning accommodation. The newer blocks (such as Dorms, built recently) feature en-suite single and double rooms, while younger boarders typically share 3–4 bed rooms.

Pastoral Care & Guidance

House Staff: Each boarding house is led by a resident Housemaster or Housemistress and supported by a deputy, tutors and in boarding houses, matrons and house managers.

Weekly Meetings: Pupils meet with their Personal Tutor individually and in small groups weekly to track academic progress and well-being.

Leadership: Each house has a group of prefects who take an important role in terms of leadership, supporting and mentoring younger pupils and being role models within the house.
House Identity & Competitions
Throughout the academic year, houses go head-to-head in a wide range of competitions as well as collaborating on fundraising and enjoying social events together:

Inter-House Competitions: Sports leagues (football, hockey, netball, cricket), House Music, House Drama, debating, academic quizzes and even Christmas cake decoration and pumpkin-carving!

Social Life & Tradition: Each house hosts its own formal dinners, weekend socials (casino nights, silent discos), and charity fundraising events.
