Miss Evans, Librarian

Last Thursday was World Book Day, and all week we celebrated our love of books and reading across the school. with competitions, teacher book reviews and even a lunchtime read-aloud, the campus was awash with literary love. We discovered new authors and shared the joy of stories with everyone, and the whole week was a wonderful reminder of the magic that books can bring to our lives.

At the start of the week all tutor groups were given two challenges - this Massive Wordsearch, and a Covert Covers competition. Miss Cull’s group were the first to hand in their completed wordsearch, and the Covert Covers competition was fierce, but in the end there were three joint-first winning groups - Mx Price’s, Miss Maguire & Mr Mackintosh’s, and Mrs Martin-Jenkins’. Each group won a big ol’ tub of chocolates to share. There was also a special prize for the Covert Covers comp , to the eager beavers who handed in their answer sheet before anyone else - Mx Price's group won this too, so they have extra goodies to dig into!

Some of our teaching staff reviewed a book they loved when they were a teenager and these little video treats were played during tutor time every day - if you missed any of them you can view them here! Thanks so much to Miss Rowsell, Mr Collier, Mr Betts, Mx Price and Mr Sealey for taking the time to talk about these excellent books! There are copies of all the titles available in the library.

And last but not least, on the big day itself, the library hosted a lunchtime Brilliant Books & Biscuits Nostalgia Special. All our guests enjoyed lashings of hot chocolate and cookies, while they listened to Miss Arduino and me read from some favourite children’s classics, including Wind in the Willows, Frog and Toad, Pippi Longstocking, and James and the Giant Peach.

It was a really fun week - we loved putting it all together for you, and hope that everyone took a little something literary away with them from the week's activities.

Happy reading!

Miss Evans
