As the majority of pupils will have attended a BE Day and been offered a place during their Year 7, in the Autumn Term of Year 8 we invite parents in to School for an evening which focuses on the Houses and pastoral aspects of life at Bede’s.
As well as hearing presentations from key staff including the Head of Boarding, Senior Housemaster and a House Tutor, parents will also have the opportunity to meet and talk to all the Housemasters and Housemistresses.
If, following this evening, you wish to request a particular house for your child we ask that you write to the Registrar to confirm your request.
During the Summer Term before your child is due to start at Bede’s and following confirmation of house allocations, all pupils and their parents are invited in for a Welcome Event.
The event is usually held on a Sunday and families of children of all ages will have the opportunity to meet with house staff and spend some time in their child’s house. Your child will also have the opportunity to meet other children joining as well as House Prefects.
There are also presentations regarding academic and pastoral expectations which are tailored to each entry year group.
This event takes place the day before term starts and is an opportunity for the Headmaster to officially welcome new pupils into the School.
Following his address, families have the opportunity to join their child within their house before lunch.
For boarding families there is also further time allowed during the day to help their child unpack and settle them into their new house.
Beyond these more formal occasions there are also plenty of opportunities for families to become more acquainted with Bede’s. Once your child’s house is confirmed, you are of course welcome to speak with your child’s Housemaster or Housemistress or email them with queries or further information you feel is relevant.
If your child is entering the Fifth or Sixth Form and has therefore not spent a day with us as First Year pupils do in the form of a Bede’s Experience Day, you may wish to discuss with the Admissions Team the option of a taster day on which they can join lessons and perhaps participate in an activity of interest.
