Former Bede's pupil and Sussex CCC Pathway graduate, Joe Sarro (Camberlot, 2020), has been added to Sussex CCC's men's squad on a month-long rookie contract.
Joe, a right-arm fast bowler, was part of the Sussex youth set-up from the age of ten, and plays his club cricket at Mayfield CC while studying business management at Loughborough University.
Speaking with Sussex CCC, Joe said, “I first played for Sussex at under-11s and have been part of the pathway since then. I have loved being part of the teams, and have benefitted from some great coaching, both with Sussex, and at my school Bede’s, particularly from James Kirtley, Alan Wells, Neil Lenham, and Richard Halsall.
“Today, when I signed my first contract, I was delighted. I hope to continue playing for Sussex for many years and become part of a very successful team.”
Reflecting on the news, Alan Wells, Director of Cricket at Bede's, commented, "We at Bede's are all naturally delighted for Joe that he has signed his first professional contract for Sussex. He follows fellow former Bede's pupils Henry Crocombe and Ali Orr who have both recently signed two-year deals with the County. They all join Delray Rawlins to make up a quartet of Bede's alumni on the Sussex books.
"Joe has always shown a level of maturity beyond his years which made him a pleasure to coach and someone who understood what he was trying to achieve with the ball from a very early age. Throughout his years at Bede's, he got fitter and stronger which are obviously great attributes to have alongside the natural ability to bowl at good pace and swing the ball. Joe's hat trick vs Millfield as captain of the Bede's U17 team in the quarter-final of the National Schools Cup will be forever remembered at Bede's and beyond.
"We wish Joe every success and look forward to following his career with great interest."
