It has been a challenging year for sport, with countless fixtures cancelled and limited opportunities to get active and play in a team. Although we continued to run our sports programme remotely throughout the lockdown, nothing beats getting out on the field and playing your favourite sport with friends. That's why it has been so fantastic to see our pupils embrace the Team Bede's spirit in our training and fixtures this half term.
Although life is naturally still restricted, with Covid-safety always at the forefront of our minds, we are delighted to have been able to offer a plethora of opportunities for our pupils to get active - both in training and at fixtures.
We are in a unique position of already having an innovative programme that has always offered sports across the different seasons. This term is no exception, with many winter sports also being played in the summer months. Our pupils have taken full advantage of this offer, with high levels of participation across all of our sports, whether competitive or non-competitive.
In Cricket, we hosted the T20 National Cup early on in the term. Our Girls U18 Cricket team have been awarded the Ruth Prideaux County Cup; our Bede's U18s have been doing very well in the National Hundred Ball Cup; and our U17s have delivered some brilliant performances in the National Cup.
Alongside some fantastic performances in fixtures, our Hockey department has celebrated four of our pupils taking part in national assessments (two for England and two for Wales - more to come on this soon!)
Our footballers have been competing in a variety of leagues and tournaments - including the revered HUDL League (which our 1st XI team won last year) and the County Cup.
We have also celebrated success on the Tennis court, with victories at the U18 Boys and U16 Boys Sussex League (at which all schools in Sussex played), as well as being named runners up in the U18 Girls and U16 Girls Sussex League.
Our Swimming team took part in virtual galas; the evening Netball league team had much success; the Golf squad have enjoyed a number of different courses; whilst our Basketball team still have a handful of fixtures to look forward to. On top of this, Squash, Strength and Conditioning, Yoga, Walking, Rugby 7’s and Badminton (to name a few) continued to run successful programme.
It has been wonderful to see so many of our pupils and staff enjoy sport in person again, and brilliant to keep everyone moving.
