Bede’s has long been renowned for the quality of its pastoral care. Our Upper School will follow the same successful model as our Prep School, with the Form Teachers taking the lead on pastoral care which acts as a safety net built into daily school life.

Emotional & Mental Health Support
- Personal Challenges: Helping students navigate family changes, bereavement, stress, or relationship struggles.
- Mental Health Resources: Providing access to school counsellors, quiet spaces, or external mental health professionals.
- Building Resilience: Teaching coping mechanisms for anxiety, exam stress, and self-esteem.
Social Well-being & Behavior
- Anti-Bullying & Peer Relations: Mediating conflicts between friends, tackling bullying, and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Behavior Guidance: Helping students understand the root causes of disruptive behavior rather than focusing solely on punishment.
- Social Skills Development: Encouraging teamwork, empathy, and positive interaction.
Safeguarding & Physical Safety
- Child Protection: Monitoring signs of harm, abuse, or neglect outside or inside school, led by Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs).
- Attendance & Punctuality: Identifying why a student might be regularly missing school (e.g., school refusal, caring responsibilities at home) and supporting them to return.
- Health & Personal Care: Managing medical needs, basic physical hygiene awareness, and health guidance.
Personal Development & Life Skills
- PSHE Curriculum: Delivering Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education (covering topics like online safety, healthy relationships, and financial literacy).
- Transitions: Supporting students as they move from the Upper School to Sixth Form and providing careers and employability guidance.
The school day begins at 8.25am for all pupils with some opting to join our breakfast club. Many children come in on the school bus service from across the county and some may opt to take the train to Eastbourne.
The day finishes for pupils around 4pm and then a little later at 5.20pm as pupils move through the school and take advantage of the activities offered. Late stay through to 6pm is also offered.
